Replacement of camp coaches of Track Machine Staff with modern coaches having all resting facilities

No.AIRF/60(384)                                  Dated: February 6, 2010

Hon’ble Minister for Railways,
(Government of India)
Ministry of Railways,
Rail Bhawan,
New Delhi

Respected Madam,

Sub: Replacement of camp coaches of Track Machine Staff with modern coaches having all resting facilities

Track Machine Staff are responsible for laying and maintenance of Railway tracks through out the Indian Railways. The staff deployed for this job are supposed to move from place to place and used to be out from their residence for months together.
After prolonged discussions, the Railway Board provided them camp coaches, which are attached with the Track Machine and used to be kept in the sidings where the works used to be performed. The staff who are basically responsible for the maintenance of Railway tracks are being kept in these camp coaches. Unfortunately these are in very depleted and shabby conditions and have been always a cause of complaints.
AIRF has also raised this issue in various Fora, i.e. DC/JCM, PNM, GMs’ Conference etc. Recently AIRF also organized a Safety Seminar of Track Machine Staff, where there was a unanimous demand from the workers that these camp coaches should be replaced with modern coaches having all resting facilities.
It is our earnest request that the Track Machine Staff who are doing yeoman’s’ service for maintenance of arteries(tracks) of the Indian Railways must be look after in such a way so that they can work with their full ability and efficiency, and for that, camp coaches should be replaced in a phased-manner.
There are around 1,000 camp coaches through out the Indian Railways, and it will be appreciated, if a 5-year programme for the replacement of these camp coaches is made, and to start with, 200 camp coaches should be replaced in the next year.
We hope, it will be given kind consideration and will be taken care of in this Rail Budget.
                                                              Yours faithfully,
                                                           (Shiva Gopal Mishra)
                                                             General Secretary
